Victor Tsao, Founder and Principal

Victor practices corporate law with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, real estate development, cross-border transactions, financing, technology, and entertainment law. He is also a registered trademark agent and a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.

With extensive experience in the Asia Pacific market, Victor provides strategic advice to Canadian, Chinese, and Japanese clients as they do business throughout the region. This includes entering new markets, corporate financing, business development, and cross-border transactions.

Prior to founding Tsao & Company, Victor was the managing partner of the Vancouver office of a global law firm and served as Chair of the Asia Pacific Practice Groups of a large national law firm.

Victor is fluent in English, Chinese, and Japanese.

Vicky Li, Lawyer

Vicky advises businesses on a full range of corporate and transactional matters. Her practice includes mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, commercial contracts, and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining Tsao & Company, Vicky practised at an international law firm and served as law clerk to the Honourable Martine St-Louis of the Federal Court.

Vicky is fluent in English, French, Mandarin, Spanish, and Korean.

Deniz Cem Ozensoy, Lawyer

Deniz advises clients on a wide range of corporate, commercial, and civil disputes. His practice includes commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, administrative law matters, and appellate advocacy.

Prior to joining Tsao & Company, Deniz maintained a broad civil and family law practice, including arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He earned his JD from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia and holds a master’s degree in international studies, with a focus on international dispute resolution, from the Nanjing campus of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

Deniz can assist clients in Turkish, English, and Mandarin.

Maggie Li, Paralegal, foreign qualified lawyer

Maggie Li is a paralegal with more than 20 years of legal experience in China. She began practising law in China in 2003 and has worked on a broad range of corporate, commercial, and dispute-related matters.

Before relocating to Canada, Maggie served as legal counsel to numerous businesses and provided ongoing legal advisory services to companies across various industries. Her experience includes contract matters, corporate governance, commercial transactions, business operations, risk management, and commercial dispute resolution.

In addition to private practice, Maggie previously served as a university law lecturer in China, where she taught International Law, International Economic Law, Civil Law, and related legal subjects.

Maggie holds a PhD in Law and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of British Columbia, a Master of International Business from the University of Melbourne, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Wuhan University, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Finance from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.

Maggie’s current work focuses on corporate, commercial, trust-related, and dispute-related matters. She assists with legal research, document preparation, client communications, and the review of business and litigation materials. With her background in law, business, and international commerce, Maggie brings a thoughtful and practical perspective to her work and is committed to supporting clients with careful, responsive, and commercially minded legal service.

Maggie is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Janis Chan, Paralegal, foreign qualified lawyer

Janis Chan is a paralegal with a developing interest in corporate law and technology law. She completed her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in the United Kingdom and has successfully completed the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) process in Canada. Prior to relocating to Canada, Janis gained experience in the legal field in Hong Kong.

Janis is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

Outside of her legal work, Janis is actively involved in dragon boat racing, volunteering, and maintaining an active lifestyle through regular gym training.
